Default building motor!!!

96 GSR 51,000 miles

planning on rebuilding my bottom end with some eagle rods and either ITR or CTR pistons to go with my skunk2 stage 2 head kit(not installed yet). Just wondering all the parts i need, so I can drop off all the parts to the mechanic and not have to worry about running out for little stuff. So a list of all parts i should replace: which gaskets, do i need new rod bolts new cam seal? and stuff like that.. and i am still debating between the ITR or CTR pistons. I have heard that the CTR (12:1) pistons will have to much compression for the stage 2 cams? all opinions will be greatly appreciated... thanks

You should wait until they take the measurements on the cylinder bores before you go off and buy pistons.

When you do need pistons tho, talk to Leo (ITRinEJ1) or peruse http://www.jdmspecperf.com

I'll e-mail you a list.

Can you afford a motor that smokes and burns oil?

My motor only had 75k miles on it. When I measured it, the bore taper came out to .0001" below the service limit. I thought it'd be ok, but it piston slaps for just a second or two on cold starts.

I should have just overbored, but kinda like you, I had already bought the pistons at a great price. That in itself convinced me to not overbore. In retrospect, I would have overbored in a heartbeat if I'd known the consequences.

If you don't want the down time waiting for pistons, just .25mm overbore it. But, doing that will prevent you from overboring it again on those same sleeves somewhere down the line.
