broken stud
the rear studs are easy to replace. just take off wheel, unbolt brake caliper and move out of the way, take off rotor (remove the screws), then just knock the studs out of the hub and replace with new ones. then put everything back together.
if you've been driving for awhile on just 3 studs, i would go ahead and replace all four of them to be safe. they're really cheap.

If the car has ABS, remember that they only sell the rear bearings with the hubs/abs ring. Depending on how hagard the bearings are, I always suggest replacing them. They are about $140 each without the wheel studs.
