Default brief knock

a few weeks ago i was driving my car and the gasket on my oil filter blew, i lost the majority of the oil and limped the car about 5 miles at 20 mph. now everytime i start the car it makes this ticking noise for a brief half second and then it goes away. any ideas of what it may be?

So it's not an engine knock? I can't really tell because that is one massive piece of writing. lol

What are the weather conditions? What weight oil are you running? What filter? Do you park in a garage or outside?

I think hes asking you if your parking outside because if your running a thicker oil and its say 15degress out and you start the car, all that thick oil isnt going to lube everything right away...

How old is your oil pump?

I was thinking the same thing? Maybe when you changed the oil filter last and you didn't tighten it properly? Other than that, it can be a lot of things, in need of a valve adjustment or even a spun bearing.

Have you drained your oil to see if you have the silver sludge special? That's where I'd start first.

Funny how you ask for help yet instantly dismiss what a qualified person has to say. Ho do we know you didn't put the the wrong weight oil for the weather conditions? There are tons of goons on H-T, afterall you did drive your car home after you dumped most of your oil. For all we know you could have spun a pos Fram filter on and filled the motor up with some 75-90 you had laying around.

If you want help give more details and don't jump down peoples throat when they try to help. Especially if you don't have the common sense to pull over instead of drive home.

You over tighten a cheapy filter and it splits the rubber. See it way too often.
