Break-In
So my friend is building up his block for turbo, but he told me that you rev hard in order for the rings to set, is this true? I thought that you're suppose to go 1k miles without revving hard so that your rings can set but I might be mistaken. Who is the right one first of all and how do you guys break in your new engines?
Break in:
Disable ignition, spin engine with starter, build oil pressure.
Initial start, idle engine, check for leaks.
Shut off engine, load car on trailer and deliver car to tuner.
Tune the car.
It is now broken in.
You do want to drive it hard to seat the rings, but you also don't want to drive it at all (much less hard) without being tuned first. The tune itself should include several hard runs up to redline, which seats the rings.
