Opps sorry I should have looked where you are from. CHP stands for california highway patrol. I think you can try a sheriff station. Remember you need to bring the engine block in with you. If they find out that it is indeed a stolen motor, they will take it, if not then kool. You shouldn't have a problem getting the buyer (if he is local) to take the motor in with you cause if he does, its probably stolen.

Wouldn't running the number thru carfax find out??? Because if the engine was stolen, then I'm positive that the owner would report it.
But I have to give you props for making sure it's legit...
for people who purchase stolen goods.

Running carfax is for the vehicle VIN I believe. He is talking about the engine vin.
having the VIN say JH4DC2 does not mean its a gsr dc2 is the chassis code for all the coupes gsr is does not have its own code J is country or origin= japan H is manufacturer =honda 4 make or type
thanks for everyones opinions.....but if i do call the state patrol what should i say? should i say something like im buying a motor from a junk yard and i would like to check the vin numbers? has anyone done this before? i dont wanna take it in cause what if it is stolen...i would be at a lost......i need to find out by this weekend
thanks again

It was my belief that the engine vin and the car vin numbers are the same.
