Blinking Oil Light
Hi, I was driving today and I noticed my oil light started blinking. I pulled over, and checked the dipstick to find it empty. Of course then I added oil and the light doesn't come on, but what would cause my oil to empty out like that? I changed the oil a while ago so I don't think it's due to a loose drain plug or filter.
Any help would be appreciated...

The current state is just a little below the lower hole on the dipstick. So I guess the minimum. But that was after I added a whole bottle of oil, so it was lower than that before.
As to me driving it hard, it's possible, but I never thought I did. I take it up to redline maybe once or twice a month, usually shift at 4k-5k. Well, actually on my highway crusing I am usually at 4k. This is on a b18b by the way. Would that be considered hard driving?
I changed my oil last in March or so, that's pretty quick to go thorugh 4 quarts of synthetic. I checked for oil spots under my car and there aren't any.
The only thing that I can think of that might have caused the problem is that the plastic top of my radiator cracked a few months ago and consequently I overheated. Perhaps something was damaged when I overheated it? I only have 96,000 miles on the car.
If I can't find any external leaks, is there any way to check for bad rings or seals? Will a compression test tell me? And where could I get one done?

Do a search on compression test and leakdown test and you should find a bunch of old posts about it.
That reading of slightly below the minimum was when it was cold and after I had added a bottle of oil when it was hot. When I checked the oil level when hot, it was empty and even after I added the bottle it was empty as well.
I overheated for about 5-10 minutes, and I would say I overheated pretty bad. When I was able to get to a gas station, and got to add some water, water kept steaming as I added water to the radiator. However, I didn't overheat enough to require a new radiator. Does that sound bad enough?
I guess I'll have a compression and leakdown test done, and if those comeback okay then I guess my engine is okay?

Thats not low!!! When I noticed I was low VTEC wouldnt kick in on turns and there was NO READING in the stick...the light NEVER came on!????
Chris, of all people I thought you were a guy that would check his oil regularly, I check mine religously everynight, come on guys.
hehe..I do now....so is ACURA! Im due to go back in for them to check the level...We are doing a 1000 mile test to see how much Im actually burning..hopefully Ill get a new set of rings!!!
Umm... I doubt my problem would be because I shift too high. I mean the damn car cruises at 4000-4500 rpm, so why would shifting around there be so bad?
Alot of people on this board drive their car alot harder than I do I bet.
Looks like I'm gonna get a compression tester. Any recommended testers?
