Default Best way to jack up car.

Changing oil is a pain in the *** since my car is lowered and I need a good jack and stands to use so I can change oil easier. The one I have now is good for tire rotation but doesnt go up very far. I need to find a good jack that has plenty of lift and is very safe to use since I don't want it falling down when I am under the car obviously. The lower the price ($100 or less) the better also.

Thanks!

i bought some $35 "MVP" SUV jack from wal-mart.....i use my stock jack to jack the car up enough to fit that jack underneath and then use that...it lifts the car up fast because it was made for an SUV and it can certainly hold the cars weight.....i use that, put the jackstands underneath, change the oil....lower the car down most the way with the SUV jack until it touches the stock jack that i've put back from before at the same height...that way i can pull the SUV jack out from under the car...

don't expect any jack to support the weight of the vehicle while you are working on it, even changing the oil.

get a set of good quality jack stands. and put something else under the car in case those fail as well. give the car a good shake once you have gotten the jack stands under the vehicle, it is best to find out if it is going to fall without you under it.

I don't want to sound like your mom or dad, but you need to think about safety. an aquantance of one of my friends died about 4 weeks ago because his jack failed and he didn't have anything else under the car to support it aside from his chest, which collapsed when the car fell on him.

so get a good hydraulic floor jack and some good quality jack stands, and put some wood, cinder blocks, your tires something else under there incase it does fall.

try an autoparts store and see what they have for sale.

Yep, you need good jack stands and don't forget wheel chocks to keep the car from
moving in the first place.

Harborfreight.com sells 2.5 ton jack for about $60.00.

I placed 2 pieces of woods on the floor, lined up with the front tires, and drive my car over it to raise the car. Then you'll have no problem jacking the car up.
