Default Beaks and BSQ kit and lower tie bar

sorry, archives search is down.

I'm going to get a rear itr sway bar to replace my flimsy gsr's.
Those that have the kits how do you like them?
Did you have to do anything unusual to get the mounts to fit?
Does a lower tie bar in combination with the kit fit? Is it even worth getting a lower tie bar? tia

Beaks 60$ - kit seems a bit beefier/sturdy
BSQ 20$ - price is very appealing
lower tie bar (such as benen) in combination with the rear sway bar - is it going to fit and is this practical for improvement?

tia

Are you trying to imply that those who bought the BSQ kit are not "doing things right"?? Bret (bsq) told me that the benen bar fits with his kit w/ no modifcations.

I never said BSQ kit is bad. He did. BSQ kit is a goot kit, good way to save money, and it does its job.

I just like the beaks better. Looks strongs/better to me...but thats my opinion.

Beaks also sells an upgrade kit/longer bolts for tie bars.

i have a beaks kit, i am very pleased with it. it's very sturdy. you do need the tie bar upgrade, if you want to use a lower tie bar.

I'm using BSQ kit. No problems here. I don't see why people pay $40 more for a kit that 'looks stronger'. I guess beaks makes $40 per kit and bsq makes next to nothing.

I've installed both kits for friends and the Beaks kit is more sturdier by design. But that's because it utilizes a large plate compared to the reinforcement plate of Bret's. It's also more labor intensive. It is a different kit from Bret's (BSQ) and it's a personal choice as to which you like best. Both do the job well and there have been no problems or tearouts with either one.

So what I'm trying to say is, it doesn't matter who's you use. Both work just as good.

So if you want to use a lower tie bar, you have to get an upgrade kit for both the Beaks and BSQ kit?

I have the BSQ mounting kit and the Benen bar is not a direct fit. I had to put a ton of washers on both sides for the bar to clear the bottom swaybar bracket bolt.

If you're gonna get a lower tie bar anyways you could order a comptech lower tie bar (just the tiebar from their tiebar/swaybar kit) and mount your ITR sway to it and forget the BSQ or Beaks kit. It's $219US from comptech. It'll be more pricy but in the end I think its a better way to go.

Can you tell me where to get it for $219?? On Comptech's site they have it listed as $399.

Or you can pay $20 and make your own like I did.

The following rear lower tie bars work with the Type-R rear swaybar (when used with my BSQ mounting kit) with no further modifications: Spoon, Comptech, JIC Magic and Benen. But there has been a few people that have recently stated that the Benen bar would not fit without some additional spacers. So I'm not sure if Benen has changed their tie bar recently that prevents it from being a direct bolt-on.

Other rear lower tie bars such as the Neuspeed, Skunk2, etc. will work with the Type-R rear swaybar, but you will need a two 1/2" LCA bolts and a two 1/2" spacers which will prevent the tie bar from contacting the swaybar.

where can u get the beaks kit?
http://www.beaksproducts.com/

I used this kit on my GSR, works great.

From talking to Wil, the Benen bar will work with the Beaks kit, but you'll need his 'upgrade' kit that consists of longer LCA bolts. Info on the Beaks website.

I have a feeling the sway bar will make a bigger difference than the lower tie bar. those that have a lower tie bar... would you say it's worth it? noticeable improvement? tia

The difference isn't very noticeable. That part of the subframe doesn't flex much. No measureable increases in handling like slalom or skidpad numbers would improve from a tie bar. Your money is better spent on things that give measureable improvements like the sway bar or a good camber kit and alignment.

BSQ kit, its nice, cheap, he sends it fast and if you're really cheap he even tells you how to make one of your own.
