basic gsr Q's
hey, new to the board but not new as a car junkie....i was planning on taking up a gsr 3door as my next car...just wondering what are somethings i should look for when i'm out searching, what are the difference in the 94-97(?) and 97+, what are some aftermarket sites that's devoted to the integra besides hondata, and just some basic stuff i might need to know. i'm def planning on boostin and the gsr seems like a good easy choice with good aftermarket support....anything would help...thanks
and adding to the boost....how much boost can the stock internals handle? would it be better to get the ls with lower compression?

97+ look diff, diff front and rear bumper, 96+ OBD2, other good sites are http://www.team-integra.net 2000+ has a immobilizer built into the ECU.. really theres not much diff. Suspension and engine is the same
the cosmetic changes were for 98 and up. 94-97 is the first version.
due to VTEC, which helps the high end breathing and thus torque, you don't need much boost at all. 7psi can get you well over 200 to the WHEELS, more like 250 (by comparison, the evo at 271 CRANK is boosted to 16psi I think!).
Reliable? kinda. If you want reliability I would stay in the 6-7psi area and add a Hondata ECU (the stock one is just not for turbos, Hondatas can be customized). I really believe at anything over 7 you are looking at a rebuild before you want it.
Also, you'll want to add a limited slip differential for traction.
Some like the LS for its lower compression, which allows higher boost. I disagree. The GSR block is stronger, with oil jets for piston cooling, a full girdle, and is balanced and strengthened for high RPMs. Also, the GSR engine can breathe at higher RPMs, the LS does not. Thus, to equal the power of a GSR at a specific level of boost, the LS will need more boost because it has a lower torque peak and it falls fast; the GSR has a nice, long, flat torque curve all the way to 7000+ RPM, and under boost the curve is even longer. VTEC+Turbo is an awesome combo.
GSR:
pros...strong block, nice flat torque curve with high torque peak due to VTEC
cons...high compression means boost is limited without a hondata or comparable ECU. motor expensive.
LS:
pros...Lower compression allowing higher boost, motor is cheap.
cons...Not as strong as GSR block no matter what net kiddies say. Breathing isn't as good, limiting how high you can rev and still have torque.

Ls is great for the money and wit a lil more money spend wit a turbo and itself u can turn it into a beast but like they say Vtec + Turbo is sweet but expensive. Ls good to start off wit GSR for the big boys but both r great... their A Honda!
expensive car-wise or modding wise? car wise, i've been find some with decent miles for around 9grand, 5spd also...no running with the big boys but i'll take the gsr
haha....hondas are nice cars...didn't get into it till this year tho...nissan fan and still is....just addin more knowledge under my belt.
also...where in philly are u at? i'm right outside in the suburbs
