i don't think you would be quite at 5k at 80. trying to remember where i am. 65 is like 3500. 80 is 4 something. still you're right the b20 isn't designed for sustained rpm and you may loose mpg since that engine isn't designed to operate at 4k constantly like an R is.

which is why.....

i say leave what you have alone or buy the R engine or full swap. best use of funds either way

That's what I was saying!!!
It's all on the tune. I believe you. Maybe. Should.
And if anything Happens the motor is cheap to replace.

Yea b20 are really cheap. Go boost. Just get a good turbo and fuel system. The intercooler and pipeing can be eBay. Good luck.

But what about a vtec head on a stock block with arp head studs?
I'm pretty sure if I can go turbo on a stock block I could just go with vtec right?

mmm...sort of. the real risk with vtec is the huge increase in rpm. with turbo you stay within the factory rev limit and as long as you don't go crazy it can be reliable.

problem again $$$$

you will spend more bringing that b20 to 200hp with boost than you will just buying an itr engine

now if you're planning on 300+hp, absolutely start buying turbo gear and plan a bottom end build down the road.

Ok.
I was just wondering because I know a lot. I mean a lot of people here in LA that I know for a fact they didn't spend a lot of $ on their b20vtec or lsvtec. (sleeving the block for sure I know they didnt do)
and the reason why I ask about vtec head conversion is because every one says "it is a cheap mod you can do and gives you more power"
In other words. A BANG FOR YOUR BUCK!!!!!

first off. most people into B series honda's are either

A. full of ****
B. thieves
C. have been around awhile and do it as a hobby

C is the only group that really matters. price out all your parts before you get going. group A likes to make it sound cheap but numbers don't lie. unless you just make a slap together junker from high mile craigslist parts it's not going to be cheap.

seriously, make a list of your required parts are aprox. prices

very solid outfit that compression tests their engines before they ship. this one here has 255psi in each hole warm, also had that exedy stage 1 clutch and exedy flywheel bolted on it. cost a total of $2700 delivered to my door

$4000 will get you a full swap, not just an engine

we're just talking engines though. also keep in mind any changes in the iacv valve, gaskets, machine work, the whole 9. to do a vtec conversion on that b20 half way right and with decent parts you'll be in it 2000.....just add up parts ya know.

if you sell your b20 for 400, add that 2000 you're within spitting distance of an R motor. oem timing belt for that is $50 and you're ready to go. the other parts like the cap, rotor, wires, plugs etc you can change at leisure

i'm just saying it's similar money and that R engine will have a lot more resale and be a lot more reliable
wow.. im listenin.
