Default B18C idle problems

Hello, a buddy of mine is having issues with his B18C in his 95 integra. Over the winter months the car now is having idle problems. When the engine is started cold, the idle hunts from around 3000 rpm's to 1000rpms. Staying mostly at the 3000 rpm mark. The check engine light just came on after 2 hours of driving. The code read as a bad MAP sensor. Me being a DSM person thought it might be a bad vac line. However checking for leaks didnt uncover anything. I talked to a parts buddy of mine and he did some checking around. Apprently the parts that go on the car are the coolent sensor and possibly the air intake temp. Both parts were around $25 and said to go that route before laying down $200+ on a new map sensor. Any imput would be appreciated, i dont know if the B18C has a idle air control or what. Problem does go away after car is warmed up

Thanks

There is an idle control valve you can adjust with a simple flathead, its on the intake manifold. You can also try reseting the ECU by taking the negative (black) clamp off the battery for around 15min then putting it back on.

If the code read MAP sensor then I believe the computer knows whats wrong. IACV is the usual problem with an integra idle

I don't think so. However, a bad MAP could cause the idle to fluctuate.

The map is most likely the problem, but that is not a guarantee. You can check part compatability through the links in my signature. Or if someone else has the same car, you can temporarily swap the MAP to check the effect on the problem. Unfortunately, a new MAP is expensive.

Look on ebay, you can find OEM map sensors cheap :-)

Concerning troubleshooting the issue. Get a helms manual on how to resolve the MAP MIL.
