Default b18c engine noise. need help!

heres a video of my motor. its a little hard to hear the noise. you can hear the noise best at the beginning of the video. in the video the engine is cold. i have done a valve adjustment, ive also done what ive read was to remove a spark plug wire one at a time while the motor is running to see if the motor noise changes without that cylinder firing. it said it was suppose to help identify rod knock. the noise didn't change at all. the noise seems loudest when the motor is cold and when accelerating from 0 to 25 mph. you cant hear it at ideal(2500 rpm and up). while driving you can hear it while maintaining speeds with very light throttle pressure. during full throttle you cant hear it(car may be to loud to hear it) the motor has great power and no problems other then a fluctuating ideal sometimes.

any help would be great!

Its hard to hear but it could be a number of things, if it is a rod knock a good start would be to drain oil thru a fine strainer and look for metal shaving. But it could be a LMA that went bad by the way you make it sound in the description.

Had the exact same problem.

Turned out to be #3 rod bearing.

well its a number 4 rod bearing. if i rebuild the block, do i need to do anything to the head to reuse it on the rebuilt block beside cleaning and decking? i wondering if the head was affected from the metal in the engine.

Usually a good hot tank does the trick but if it ran a long time with the less to no bearing then the cylinder wall some time get damaged (out of round) due to the rod being looser on the crankshaft journal and it worse case senario the pistons reach the head for a lil massage. That's from the Gsr I picked up look at the head damage on each side of the combustion chamber, the piston had some damage also... (the pic is sideway so up and down)

This may be a dumb question.... if my head shows damage similar to yours will it still be usable? Im trying to compare the cost of a rebuild or go h2b.

I havent got that one dye tested yet but if there is no crack in it I will be reusing in a b20 vtec setup moste likely and match the size of the combustion chamber to the bigger bore which should remove most of the damage in this case. It could be re used in the same engine but could lead to premature failure of the head gasket but thats just a guess here tho.
