Valves just don't mysteriously start tapping once you change the oil. It takes time for valve clearances to change, and it wouldn't happen that quickly.
Btw, valves tend to get tighter over time, therefore, making LESS noise.
What weight is the oil?
Same brand and weight as oil used before?

i don't believe so either.
op, aside from the noise, how does the engine run now? same as it did before? and you're sure this noise wasn't occurring before this oil change?

A thinner oil will most certainly make the components a bit louder, so maybe it he changed the oil weight, he would notice an audible difference. Slight, but maybe enough for him to associate it as a valve tap.
If the oil was the same weight, then I would suspect the tap is not oil related.

it smoked a little before i changed the oil and idk what weight the previous owner used. i swapped to 10-30. its my daily. it wasnt making this noise until i changed the oil.
