Default b16 head

ok, so i know u guys are probably going to think im gonna ask one of the questions that everyone asks about if b16 heads fit on gsr blocks, well im not. i bought a b16 head, its an obd0 head with a type r manifold and tb. i have a 99 gsr, what will i have to do to make it work properly, ive been told its just switching over the vtec sylenoid? but i was just making sure

i think you should be fine since you have a type manifold and tb because those are obd2 just like your car. just reuse your distributor and i think vtec solenoid. some correct me if i'm wrong though. good luck with it

Your going to be lowering your compression, you need some new pistons if you want to see power from putting the b16 head on. You need to switch the distributor from the gsr to the b16 head. Not sure if it will bolt up, you might need to get a 99-00 Si distributor if it doesnt have the same bolt pattern. Or just bolt up 2 out of 3 of the bolts.

i tink everything will bolt, the only problem is that b16 heads have a more open combustion chamber than gsr you will loose power unless you chage the pistons as well to a higher commpression.

Exactly.

Also with S2S2 Cams your going to need high compression or your car is going to run like poop. ITR pistons are a must. Throwing a b16 head on a gsr block is not a poor mans type-r.

it's only a .2 drop in compression. nothing drastic.

With stage 2 cams stock GSR compression isnt enough to get the best performance, and going less, even a .2 drop would make it perform even worse.

while not performing at it's best it still wont be a complete dog. besides, stage 2 cams on a stock engine isnt smart anyway you look at it.
