Let's see...for it to be reliable you'll need:

complete VTEC head
complete intake manifold
intake manifold gasket
headgasket
oil lines
dowel pins
head studs
GSR water pump
timing belt
balanced crank
higher compression pistons
wrist pins
pistons rings
main bearings
rod bearings
front main seal
rear main seal
exhaust manifold gasket

...and a partridge in a pair tree.

that estimate is based on used parts and without factoring labour?

It would be more helpful if you were a bit more specific .

By the time your spend the money and get the thing set up the first time, and then have to spend more, and spend more, and spend more to get it ironed out and have it be reliable, you could just get a b16a1 or a2. They are cheap, reliable and plentiful, I got my complete b16a1 shipped for $1500, with tranny and ecu, minus lsd. On top of that it doesnt take a rocket scientist to do the swap.

for the price and worry about reliability its worth the extra money to get a gsr motor or turbo the ls.

You're on crack. LS/VTEC is very reliable. The original post does not mention anything about turbo. Why does everyone think any post on this forum is open for them to give their own opinion instead of actual facts that the originator is requesting?

I have 2 friends who have done an LS/VTEC coversion and I'll start by saying that they spent good money and did it with quality parts and didn't skimp. They're both running very smoothly right now but they had quite a few headaches getting there and looking back, they both claim it might have been cheaper/faster to swap for something else like a C5 or boosted C1 or H22 for equivalent/better gains. Just relaying ...

Parts list is long and listed above. As for cost, I know they've both spent more than 8000 (CDN) on this application.
