Default Autometer Pro Shift Lite Install

I did a search and found a topic, but it wasn't for tegs. So I'm posting here. The + and the - I know where to put those. But were do i connect the wire for the RPM signal?

If its same as installing a Tach it goes to your GREEN distributor wire under your hood. Did you check Auto Meter for instructions?

What are the point of those things? Is it that hard to look at the stock tach? Or do you need the big light to blind you while driving?

I mean if you have them for looks, thats one thing, but do they have a real purpose on a pretty much stock car with bolt-ons or whatever?

I'd put my money towards performance personally.

Well... Does a shift light make a difference?
Well, no matter what set-up you are running and how moded your ca is.... it is all personal preference!

It depends on whether or not you want to have to keep glancing down at your tach.

Personally, if I'm driving that hard.... I don't want to have to worry about glancing down at my tach... I would rather keep my eyes on the road and what not.... and with a shift light, obviously you don't have to worry about watching the tack?

I would rather not take my eyes off the road when im about to hit 8,000 RPMs and bounce the limiter. But anyways where is this blue wire located? Or Green?

If you are autoXing or on a track, would you rather be consintrating on your turns or your tach?

I tapped mine into the blue and silver wire that goes into the back of a gauge bezel. Works great, didn't have to run wires through the firewall. Its on the wire clip that is on the same side as the temp, tach, etc.

i hate that whole "dont get it because its not for performance" bull ****.

shift lights help in REAL racing (road race, auto cross) because you dont have time to look at your tach. unlike drag racing (ahem.. boring?) you have to pay attention to what's on the road. i would get a shift light as well, i'd rather be able to shift at the same RPM every time, instead of guessing by the sound from my exhaust (like at the last autox).

you dont see the pointin it ? try racing sometime and then tell me how useful it is . . when your going fast and shifting hard taking your eyes off the rd to look at the tach is losing your flow. . . . . . they are made for a reason . look in the cockpit of a pro car and i garuntee you will see one

i am looking at getting one. it would be one less thing to worry about when i autocross. by the way, in every autocross i have done, i have never looked at my guage cluster while racing. the turns come up too quickly.

for non-competition use, i agree, they are just for looks... but it still doesn't bother me when someone gets something for looks only

if you depend on looking at your tach to know what rpm you are at, you are an idiot either way because you dont know your car well enough to do any kind of racing. in drag racing we look at the road not the tach , so learn how to drive before you start talkin shxt.

I never really said that shift lights are pointless, I said that the big tack is. If someone has a shiftlight on there dash, or I've seen them above the steering wheel, thats cool!

that's another story, I dont see how when your drag racing you need to look at the road, your going strait It wont hurt to look down at your tach, I do it I see more of a point for autoX to have a shift light, but it is a personal preference. I dont like the big tachs, and if I could I would put just a shift light on my car for shifting points, BUT I'm not going to.

you should keep your eyes on the road either way, whether you are going in a straight line or in a circle...its just principle. I don't drag race with my eyes closed, therefore I keep my eyes on the road. I just think getting a tach and/or shift light makes the driver more dependent on those apparatus for shifting instead of learning the car's shiftpoint by ear, which is always better for any type of racing. i mean i bought a shift light/tach about 2 months after i bought my car and after about 2 days i realized i wasn't ever even looking at either one...just my 2 cents.
