The removal reduces stiffness, thus preventing unloaded wheel (the outside wheel) lift? Providing smoother rotation. I'm understanding this correctly, right?

Au-GSR should have walked the course before running. He was either going wayyyyy to fast in the last corner (and got out of sorts) or just got plain lost.
