Is it an aftermarket radio, or stock?

You might want to check the power wire...

Youre describing two things here ...

goes down mid way but only in mornings? is yoru car under ice and snow?

keeping the antenna extended whist switching between cd and radio.. that is controlled in the headunit. My pioneer stays up for the duration of the radio being On. How old is your radio?

OK - my '98 GSR has the same two problems going on right now. My antenna often doesn't go down all the way - usually 90% of the way (makes a thumping sound as if caught on something). Just had it replaced with a new shaft, but it's still doing it.

I also have a Pioneer head unit, and it drives me nuts that every time I switch CDs, it powers off and the antenna goes down - of course, needing to go right back up when I put in another CD!

Same problems here - Its getting really annoying when I hear that "thumping" sound.

Mine did the same exact thing, then one day I didn't have any change and I was going thru a toll... so i call my friend and he payed for me. Toll lady waves me thru, and THWACK goes the damn toll-arm-thing on my car. When I got out I realize my antenna was at a 90 degree angle fro where it should be... straight back. I snapped it off, and replaced it a few weeks later, and ever since I've had 0 problems.

damn. you guys are complaining about keeping the ant. up with cd's playing? i hate the look of it. i hardly listen to the radio. i'm looking for a nice head unit that only powers the ant. when i switch to radio mode..

my ant. thumps early in the morning when i go to school, but it's really cold here now. so thats the problem, prolly just the shaft sticking or something

Oh, sorry I forgot to mention... my Sony only raises the antenna when the radio is on. During CD play it stays down.

my old pioneer stereo in my last car did the same thing by bringing down the antenna if i ejected a CD.
what i did to stop that was switch to radio first so antenna stays up, then eject CD. once i realized that worked, always did it and antenna always stayed up until i turned the car off

i just ordered my kit and should be getting it within a week or so. i heard some ppl say they got worse reception (unless they get a small amp for it) some say better than stock. if you want you can contact me late next week, since i should have it by then and i'll let you know how it goes for me.

i haven't gotten to drive with my manual steering rack conversion yet (i'm still working on it) and boost is still in the works (dismantling the block to send it to Vince)......but the S2K conversion ranks right up there in terms of the mods I'm really really really happy I did.

Very simple install if you order the kit from Chris (member name RStoR), quality build on his stuff. Great guy to deal with, and the instructions on bseries.net (also included with the kit) are very easy to follow. Don't mind the dirt, she's been on stands for a long long while now:

Edit: reception is almost exactly as it was before the install. It's a tidge worse, but for as little as I listen to the radio I have no qualms about it whatsoever.

The insight one is much longer. Go for that if you want a long skinny one. Otherwise the s2k is the short fat one.
