Is this amount of damage normal?

I pulled my head off to replace my head gasket and ran into this!! I don't think I've ever seen anything this bad before. Even the edges around the deck have chunks missing. Funny thing is, even though my B16 had this much damage and a blown head gasket, it RAN like a dream! gotta love Honda right??

Yeah, That block is done for now, I'm just happy that my head seems to be fine. I just won a B17 block on ebay, so a fresh rebuild is on its way.

I got your message, I tried to reply, but I'm not allowed to yet. I'll keep you in mind if the block I just purchased doesn't work out for me. Thanks!

Yeah, thanks for the tip. I'm going to have it all taken apart, cleaned, resurfaced and put back together again. I don't want to risk running into this again in the future.

never a dumb question the only dumb question there is, is the one you never asked.
grounds are needed so this doesnt happen specially from engine to chassi.
