Default Advice on Nitrous

Advice On Nitrous
I was gonna go FI , but now
I'm considering getting nitrous for my GSR...

My engine mods so far:
-CAI
-Type R camshafts
-OBX cam gears

I'm just wondering who's using it and how safe it is, what to look out for ect...
Will R cams run well with Nitrous? because I know they don't work well with FI setups...because of the lift/duration ect...

Any info would be great!

From experience dont do it.
Ill tell you why, you'll fell disapointed that your car is only really fast when you hit that switch.
Also there will be cars in your town you want to showup, but you only see them when you bottle is empty and when its full no one to be found.
People say its cheaper than FI, but around my area average price to fill bottle $27 thats definitley something to think about.

I was running the plate system wet shot(75) and i got about 10 runs or so @ the track. (thats almost $3 a race pretty expensive if u ask me)

I also blew my motor after only 4 months. I had forged pistons, fuel pump, colder plugs, msd 6 to retard timing, vafc ect, and still i was one of the unlucky ones.

These things i just said maybe be biased opinions because they happend to me, but i regreted it and almost left the import scene because i felt like I was throwing my $$ away. Just build your bottom end buy a turbo kit and a standalone and i know you wont be disapointed, remember the power will always be there.

I have to agree with quikb20. I have never been a fan of nitrous. I want my car to be fast all the time, not just when I have a full bottle. I hardly have a full tank of gas, so I know my bottle would be empty all the time. Plus I know a lot of people who have F'd up good engines using nitrous. I'm saving the $$$ for turbo. I know it costs a lot more, but I'm sure it'll be worth it. Plus I won't have to worry about filling my turbo every weekend.

i can tell u this NOS is great. i have two friends with it. The one kid has an 75 shot Nitrous express kit on a 2001 TL. he runs 14.4 with it and has had it for 3 months and has gone through 5 bottles and his car and tranny are fine. the other just put a 50 shot on his del sol. it has 80000 miles on it and the car is totally fine. Dont get the ZEx kit.......STAY AWAY fron that POS. Get the Nitrous Express kit and do no more than a 75 shot. Make sure u get the MSD window switch as well so u can set the NOS to kick in at about 4400 rpms and shut down at 7600 rpms. or something like that...............good luck

Zex kit is no good in my opinion. ive seen it blow more engines than any other NOS kit out there. the good thing about the Express kit is u can get the Window switch which is well worth it.

I had nitrous in my '00 Prelude. With that big of motor I ran a 75 shot all day with no fuel upgrades. But...going up to other posts, you will eventually be dissapointed when you have to flip a switch to be faster...it kinda gets old. If you could wait and eventually go turbo...you will be MUCH happier.

Also...I have type r cam shafts in my turbo gsr built and bored to a 2.0l and they run extremely well with boost

I know quite a few people with NOS and the smart ones haven't had problems yet. I had a friend that had a STOCK GSR motor and ran both a NOS kit and a ZEX kit. He HATED the ZEX he said the NOS with the high flow valve on the bottle hit much harder. He ran a 50 shot wet for a very long time and never had a problem. If you use it wet 50 is about the limit maybe 60-75 dry if you want to push it but DO change the plugs to 2 steps colder and retard timing to about 12 degrees BTDC. The plate system for the GSR is the best way if you have to use N20 because it evenly distributes it but it's your money and your car. Also it creates blow by on the rings because of higher cyl. pressure so can prematurely wear on engine but just change your oil around 2 thousand instead of 3 thousand and it will help. The best advice is use your brain if you use the bottle
