Default Adjusting Idle Speed

I was following the instructions on how to adjust my idle speed and ran into a problem. I let my car warmup and then disconnected the sensor at the bottom of the IAC valve. Then my car just shut off. Is it suppose to do that, because on the team-integra.net instructions it sasy that the idle should just go down 100rpms. If thats suppose to happen why is my car shutting off? And would it be fine to adjust the idle with the sensor plugged in the IAC valve?

you can adjust your idle by simply turning the Idle Air screw with everything still plugged up

If your idle goes too low the car will die. The engine needs to be running at around 1000rpm I believe. Anyways, that is what I have learned from my first car, but that was a '73 Mustang so it could be different for these newer Japanese cars. Just a thought...
