both.

when you are flushing out the system (or anything with coolant), you wnat to make sure you have the right about of pressure in the system, and the correct way of adding coolant is to have the motor running (with pressure released off the radiator cap obviously).

you need to have the motor running with the cap off, and keep adding coolant until it gets to the top, then you put the cap on, for the pressure to start building up.

Well either way it's gonna go in the radiator anyway...so its probably easier to put it into the resevoir. Plus it has min/max indicators on it so I guess it would make sense add coolant there...

if you are flushing your radiator or if the coolant in the radiator becomes very low itself for some reason, you don't put coolant into just the reservoir..you need to add some into the radiator itself,in addition to the reservoir.

thanks for the quick info.

so how would one know if the radiator is low on coolant?

in other words, if my coolant resevior reads max, then both the resevior and rad. are full?

yes, if your reservoir is low, the reservoir is also known as an OVERFLOW....any overflow coolant when there is pressure goes into the reservior, and any coolant it needs, the pressure sucks coolant into it.

flushing, however, you add it direclty into the radiator until the coolant is to the top of the radiator with the motor at normal operating temperatures -- again with the cap off so there is no pressure, you don't want to take the cap off when there is hot coolant and high pressure when u turn off th emotor now do u? common sense

check manuals or get it professionally done and watch them do it if you are not exactly sure on what to do. my advise is don't do it unless you know what you are doing because you'll end up screwing it up and paying more.
