Default 96 GSR problems

Okay here is my problem my car is running like ****... I know that is broad so i'll explain all that I can...
1. when I start my car i have to keep my engine around 2500 rpms to keep it running cuz my car won't idle
2. white smoke (i believe) only on deceleration from higher gears
3. this engine is not running nearly as powerful as it used to
4. sometimes when I am driving i will step on the gas and my car wont accelerate and then if i step on the gas a lil more it will take a couple seconds and then it will accelerate again

I mean i really have no idea what the problem could be. if anybody has ideas please let me know. it will save me money on buying a bunch of parts and having the same problem. or taking it to the dealership for a diagnostic and wasting a bunch of money on that

A 96 has OBDII. Has the CEL illuminated? You should perform a compression test.

the white smoke on deceleration sounds like leaking valve seals.

compression test sounds like a good starting point to me, too "Dogginatior"

Might want to check the TPS as well. If you have a bad Throttle Position Sensor it can cause a slight delay in accel, because it will have to see a difference in the MAP sensor before the computer will recognize the demand for acceleration. Definitely check for codes. Any of the concerns that could cause all of this other than the leaking valve seals should set codes.
