94 Integra engine miss
I have a '94 Integra LS 5 speed all mechanically stock. It seems to have a miss, so I replaced the spark plugs with the NGK plugs, but it hasn't seemed to help. I did notice that when I removed one of the plug wires it didn't cause the engine to falter like the rest, and the old plug I removed from that same one was pretty black. Any suggestions on what might be the problem?
Any check engine lights? If there was no change when you removed that plug, then you are getting weak or no spark to that cylinder. Does it sound like it is running on 3 cylinders? How many miles are on the car now and has anything been replaced? I would start diagnosing the distributor area of the car.
No check engine light is on, and it has 224k miles on it. I'm not sure what all has been replaced on it as I have only had it 3 months. It ran fine up until 4 weeks ago when it started to miss and stumble when I accelerated and I got a small oil leak due to the oil pan gasket leaking. I replaced the oil pan gasket and then changed the spark plugs to try and fix the miss.
IMO, then it's not running fine. So you've changed the plugs, make sure they're gapped correctly. I would change your plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor as well. Those are all pretty easy to do. Check the ignition timing with a timing light too. If it's still missing after all that, start troubleshooting the internals of the distributor or check your A/F ratio. Running lean can cause random misfires.
