94 integra A/C HELP PLEASE!!
I have a 1994 Acura Integra LS, and I have been having trouble with my A/C. When I bought the car the A/C was cool and I figured it probably just need a recharge, no big deal right? Well, I checked the pressure and it was low so I added some freon, and it wouldn't even get to where it is supposed to be before the compressor would start kick on and off every few seconds like it was overloaded, so I let some of the refrigerant out until it started running smoothly again, I talked to some other people and they said the lines needed to be vacuumed, so I went to Auto Zone and rented the vacuum and guage manifold set and ran the vacuum on it for about a hour or so and I realized that it wasn't getting the vacuum that it should, it was only getting about 18Hg instead of around 28-30 like it is supposed to. Well I figured that it had a leak somewhere in the line at that point, so I go some refrigerant with the UV dye in it and ran it into the system, turns out it didn't have a leak, the manifold set had a leak. well i got the refrigerant in there and refilled the A/C system, it should take around 2-3 cans from having no pressure in it, but after 1 and about an 1/8th it the compressor started kicking on and off again, and the A/C never did even get anything near cool again, it was about 5 degrees cooler the the atmospheric air temp. I am not sure what part on the A/C system actually cools the air or how exactly it gets cold, but whatever it is isn't working, if anyone has ANY idea please let me know, I have spent a lot of money on this so far and just want to have cool air in the 110 degree heat, i fixed my G/F's and it will freeze you out so im stuck with that till i get this fixed I guess.
you're supose to evac all the old freon, then add the correct weight for your car. you can overload the system if you just add a bunch. why you did all that i'm not sure, most joe blow auto repair shops do AC specials for $149 or so & take care of everything for you. hopefully you didn't damage anything. it sounds like you still are having problems with air and the correct amount of freon on the system.
yes, i have done many AC systems, and all have worked amazingly when done, however I have never ran into something like this. I used the correct amount of refrigerant to spec, and nothing has been damaged. the system does not hold as much as it is supposed to either, the system holds 22 OZ, but the compressor also will try to overload after around 16 OZ, i never even let go in fast either, i let it seep in at around 35 pounds of pressure. I have talked to some other people and they said that since everything seems to be working as it should the condenser is most likely out?
