you're still non-obd, correct?
does it fire right back up?
you're using your da fuel rail and injectors, correct?

when the problem occurs, with key in run position, do you hear the 3 clicks of the main relay? 3rd click accompanied by the CEL shutting off.
when cranking, does the tach needle move at all?

and this happens every time? only runs for 5 or so seconds and dies? no exceptions?
if so, it's possible the pump is priming but won't stay running. in which case it could still be a main relay issue.
but before the swap, did everything work fine?

Do you have a fuel gauge? Hook one up to the top of the fuel filter canister. When the car dies, check the gauge to see if there is pressure.

if it runs off starter fluid, problem is fuel related. judging by how notorious main relays are for these cars, i'd pull it and have a close look at the solder joints. or if you have another one handy, give it a shot

absolutely could be. there is a testing procedure you can follow if you pull it. you'd need an ohmmeter

test and confirm first. always.
or at least crack it open and have a look at the solder joints.

can you get a hold of an ohmmeter to test continuity?

Does it turn off as soon as you let go of the key? Its a longshot, but it wouldn't hurt to check the ignition switch.

What ECU are you using? Check all your grounds as well including the one on the thermostat housing.

I have the same swap in the same car. Only difference is I'm running obd0 . The motor was running in my 92 obd1 da ,before I swapped it over to the 91 . I thought I had a fuel problem. , i change the injectors 3 times and fuel rail once and still nothing. Tonight I'm going to try a different dizzy and I'm going to check that main relay if I have any luck ill let you know.... If you get yours on let me know, I've been working my head on this car.

I got my car to start and stay on. I had a dizzy problem , I was using an obd1 dizzy on the obd0 car with a jumper harness. My car is all obd0, computer ,injectors ,Ect. I change the dizzy to an obd0 and it work perfect. I hope this helps you. Make sure if your obd0 or obd1

regardless, you've narrowed it down to a fueling issue.
i'd check for power at the fuel pump when the problem is occurring.

if you can hear your fuel pump priming, your main relay is good. check distributor.

if the car can run on starter fluid, it's an indication that everything besides fuel is there
