Re: "Must Do's" at 60,000 mile service (inteGSR)
The owner's manual that came with my '98 GS-R says to replace the timing belt at 105k. Last time I popped the valve cover off, around 54k (I'm at 61k now), the timing belt looked like it was in good condition. I've been told that the timing belt should be replaced around 90k. This goes for not just Integras, but other cars as well.

Ahh yes thats right. Great decision on Honda's part. The S2k usues a timing chain as well I believe.

this post is somewhat ridiculous, but ok
you should just look at your owner's manual for the suggested service.
T belts are usually done at 90k, but because the 90k service is expensive as it is, most people hold off on either the t-belt or the 90k. i would suggest doing the t-belt over the 90k. why? cause if your belt breaks, you're in trouble! DUH! remember to do the t-belt and the water pump
for the dealership to check the belt, they have to take it off to inspect, by the time they have it off, they've done half the work. might as well replace it if you're just gonna have a check done.
and i do suggest you changing your belt earlier than recommended by your owner's manual if you drive hard on your car.
sorry if i'm mistaken, i work at honda. not acura. hahaha! and i, myself, haven't taken any time to look at my owner's manual. lol
but anyways. 60k is a waste of money. i might do it just for warentee purposes and because i have a discount at my honda dealership. but everything is pretty much self do-able. and why not? the dealership doesn't use any special tools. so do it yourself if you'd like to learn. you can find a thread on how to adjust valves somewhere on here. just use the search tool.

not doing the full 60K mile service. i've outlined what i'm going to have done at 60K miles. though i don't feel it's a waste because performing recommended maintenance is a selling point when it's time to trade/sell the vehicle.

just a question for anyone thats had the valve adjustment/clearance checked done.. what kinda of price would you expect to pay for that, i know it'll probably be different all over but i was just wondering because i was thinkin of gettin that done in the near future.

It will cost in the lower hundred dollar range according to my local honda dealer for a valve lash adjustment. Or it will cost around $0 if you do it yourself.
Back to the thread, I might replace cap + rotor too!!!

i hate the fact that i probably could have bought a full ITR suspension setup (shocks/springs/rear LCAs/rear sway bar) and have them installed for that price (or less). oh well, i don't have the tools, location or time (46+ hour work week) to do the maintenance myself.

Re: (Xymox007)
That's terrible, it would have cost about $120 for the tools and parts necessary to do those things, and all of them are pretty simple.
You should start off slow, buy a small Craftsman mechanics tool kit from Sears for like $30. It will come with a socket wrench, metric and standard sockets, a spark plug socket, and should have a long enough extension to do your spark plugs. Then you would need a set of angled feeler gauges (<$10), a 12mm valve adjustment tool ($25), 4 NGK spark plugs ($8), a valve cover gasket kit with some sealing lube ($40), an oil disposal bucket to catch your coolant ($3), and a bottle of green prestone or honda coolant ($7) and an equal amount of water (free).
Those are all great things to do as an entry into working on your car, along with oil changes, that can help get your confidence up to work on other things.
BTW - I have done all of those things in the middle of an LA street before, you would only need a jack to do the coolant.

Re: (purplegsr)
What about the fuel filter? Replace that at 60K, also? If so, how easy would that be for a very entry mechanic (such as myself)?
thanks.
thanks.

Re: (Xymox007)
It's pretty easy to do, just make sure you have a floor jack, secure your car with jackstands, use a flare nut wrench (also called a line wrench, because it has a space for the wrench to fit around the fuel line), and a new fuel filter with washers, etc. Invest in a Helms manual or a cheaper Haynes/Chilton's, undo the gas cap, and have a rag for spilled fuel, and try to be patient.
