- Rain. Rain. Rain. Rain.
- MOSQUITOES! OMG the Mosquitoes are awful.

My friends did get back from Costa Rica and I did inform him of my plans and how they failed. But now I've got bigger problems with the whole sparkplug thing.

Heres pictures.

The sparkplug. Notice its missing the threads...

Oh hey, there's the threads!

Tried to use the EZ out... No bueno. It was about to break.

No.

We tried

While I was away on a lil vacation, my dad was working on her, trying to get the threads out but, ALAS and woe: All efforts were futile. (Channelled a lil Tolkien there :p)

So, what to do?

Welll.... The head has to come off. I'm not gonna drill out the threads and get crap all in the cylinder. That isn't an option. Now, the head has to come off, which means the pistons are right there. Why not go ahead and drop the oil pan, pull the pistons and replace the rings and rod bearings?

I was gonna talk to my dad abotu it yesterday when I went out there to pick up my bird (they watch her while my wife and I are out of town) but when I got there things were kinda chaotic because my mom fell and broke her freaking wrist

So I deemed it an inappropriate time to discuss my car. Wise, yes?

And thats where I am guys. Jelly is busted ATM. I was planning on working on her this week but theres rain forecasted every.freaking.day. And, mosquitoes.

I'll update when I know more and decide when this is all going down

dang that sucks about the spark plugs. reminds me of when i tried using a magnet to fetch out a plug and dropped a mess of BBs(were chillin on magnet) down into the cylinder. GL

Preliminary cleaning has been initiated.

Project Broken Bean is about to be under way!

So my dads shop was a disaster. He doesn't clean up after a project is finished and it annoys me. Plus it needed cleaned so I can paint her. Thus, I had to clean it

Ugh...

Started cleaning it up a lil bit...

Its all starting to come together now

Taa daaa! I'm pleased that the before and after is almost identical :p Me gusta.

Sooooooooooooooooooooo, after this dad and I pushed Jelly into the shop. Now its just a matter of diving into it. The plan is to start on it on Friday. I'm confident about removing the head, getting the spark plug out and re-assembling it, but its doing the rings/bearings I"m more hisitant on and I'd prefer to have help doing it.

Problem is, my dad will be working all weekend sooo... I dunno if it'll happen. We shall see.

Either way... Shes almost ready to come apart!

Replacing the rings and rod bearings are un-necessary. Usually it is best to leave it all stock. If you replace the rings without honing the block the new rings will never sit properly. if you replace the bearings without micropolishing the crank or at minimum matching them to original honda bearings, you have a pretty decent chance of spinning a bearing. So it would be better to leave it all alone.

If I may,
...Terrance knows how to do it. When he talks about it so nonchalantly, it's because he's done it before several times...

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO... per my last update you know that Jellybean has a broken spark plug in the head. No bueno. So, I decided to pull said head. In preparation, I decided to pull another head off a car in the junk yard. I'm workin away( hot as hell in FL mind you) when I notice this...

My eyes then went to this...

Then went to his.

I thought I was sweating :p The joys of working on cars! So I became confortable pulling the head on that test car and decided to dive head first (hah, get it?) into Jellybean.

What I started with.

So first thing, the damn bolt on the exhaust cover stripped. I was so pissed. I don't want to do this crap to begin with and here a stupid exhaust bolt is holding me back? Grrrr....

Finally get the cover off and lookie there! My manifold is cracked :p

I get the exhaust manifold off and then start on the intake manifold. If you've never pulled the intake manifold off yoru del sol/civic, know that it is a pain to do to. Primarily because of ONE stupid nut right in the middle of said manifold, on the bottom.

A good 2hrs working on it before and at least 4 times walking away before I smartened up and used a swivel head and attacked the nut from the top of the manifold. Freaking pain, ugh.

Oh, BTW. on the trip to the junk yard where I slit my wrist, I picked up a GSR shift ****!
Before:

After:

Valve cover off:

Off with your head!

THe culprit.

So, after talkin it over with my dad, I decided to drop the pan and just take a look at things.

Pulled the pistons. They looked good. Virtually no wear, really. However, the oil ring was gummed up and pretty much not working properly, thus why I used oil even though the compression rings were good.

SOooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo... now I have to decide on what I want to do.

- Re-use pistons?
- Get new pistons?
- get a valve job?
- just fix the head and go on with life?

Money money money that I don't want to spend. But alas, Jelly must live! Updates when I do moar werk.

Enj0y!

just throw some new rings in with a fresh hone job, fix the head, and call it a day. no sense in going all out if it's truly just a daily driver. i guess if you really wanted to, you could replace the valve seals and just do a quick lap job on the valves though.

when you're saying a valve job, do you mean just lapping them or are you talking like a 3 angle? you could lap them yourself, just have to get a spring compressor tool. would save a lot of money for sure.

I'm tryin. I ordered rings and stuff and they should be here Friday. Get is getting cleaned and milled. If more needs to be done, then I'll do it but otherwise I'll leave it be.

IF things go well, I"m hoping to have the bottom end reassembled and the head on this weekend. MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYBBBBBBBBEEEEE crank her up. We shall see.

Lulz, I'm so optomistic when I have zero reason to be.

So I've ended up having the head worked on some. I love spending money :/ Went back and forth as to what exactly I'm gonna do and I've decided so it'll be going back together this Saturday. I've cleared my schedule, painted my toenails and have a pretty hat. I'm ready to go!

:p

Updates this weekend. I miss driving Jelly :S

No reason you should not be wearing gloves when working underbody and in the bay.

I forgot them :S And their will be lots more Jelly updates in the future. I'm running out of time to paint it as the weather is getting cooler (finally). But I have work to do on my Integra as I'm trying to get it ready for a car show, then I"m either selling it or trading it away. THen my focus can go back to Jelly!
