Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition Phoenix Yellow Lightened Track Performance Model

Watch the Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition in its natural habitat as it eats corners left and right at the UK’s Bedford Autodrome.

The Civic Type R, in its own right, is already a beast on the track. However, Honda has once again stepped it up with the Civic Type R Limited Edition. The Limited Edition sees a weight reduction of 46 pounds compared to a regular Type R. Additionally; it also has re-visited steering engineering for more precise control. It comes with custom forged BBS wheels, and it is only available in Phoenix Yellow. Furthermore, only 1,020 will ever be made.

In a recent Evo video,  their very own Adam Towler takes the new Type R Limited Edition for a rip around the Bedford Autodrome in search of a quick lap. Lucky for us, Evo put cameras inside the car so we can all experience it too. Climb aboard and experience every split second of the hot lap.

“The Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition. Just twenty of these are coming to the UK. They’re 47 kilos lighter than the GT model, and they run on the Michelin Cup 2 Tire. It should be in its element at Bedford Autodrome, but it’s a very cold, slippery track at this time of year as you’re about to see. So, join me on board and let’s see what sort of lap time we get,” says Towler.

Throughout the whole video, you can see Towler fighting the car due to the slippery track conditions. However, even with the not-so-favorable surface, the Type R Limited Edition’s understeer is fairly minimal. What’s more, is the way it quickly grips up and pulls Towler out of the corners. This video is a pleasant reminder that the Civic Type R is no joke. Especially the Limited Edition.

Impressive Time From an Impressive Car

The almighty Civic crosses the line at 1:22.93. Towler gives us an idea of just how quick that really is.

“One minute twenty-three is properly quick. That’s half a second up on the recent Renault Sport Megane Trophy R, and we set the Renault’s time in much more favorable weather conditions. It’s also a quicker time than the Porsche 718 Cayman S,” says Towler.

Indeed, that is an awe-inspiring time. It seems the Honda legacy of developing cars to demolish competitors twice its price are alive and well. Though, price is something that is still going to hurt with these. It is worth noting that while the UK is only getting 20 examples of the Limited Edition, the US is getting 600. Sorry about that one, chaps. However, that doesn’t make the price any easier on the old wallet. Especially considering the limited availability, there are undoubtedly going to be some hefty dealer markups. Unfortunately, that also likely means a good portion of these sold will wind up never getting driven and eventually put into private collections.

The starting price of the Civic Type R Limited Edition is $43,995. While it says they are still available on the Honda website, you’d better act quickly if you are trying to get your hands on one. Just don’t get too attached to the price you see on the website.
