Frankenstein Del Sol Has Us Asking a Lot of Questions
Unfortunate hybrid love-child of a 350z/G35/del Sol does exist. We are still confused.
The Honda del Sol bears a love-hate relationship with many even within the Honda community. This is understandable. Back when Honda released the del Sol back in the early 1990s, a lot of people were wondering what the sporty FWD two-seater targa top was about.
Honda was building off of the successful CR-X who the del Sol would be replacing at the time. Although perhaps not as raw as its predecessor, the del Sol was a special car in its own right and still provided a lot of positive value for many enthusiasts.
However, it’s lifespan as a model would plagued with quality concerns and poor sales as a result saw the vehicle disappear from Honda’s lineup by 1997. Since then, the del Sol has seen many generations pass it by boasting new technology and improved engines, but has kept its relevance.
How? They are cheap, fun, and have insane levels of aftermarket support/mod-iblity. In some cases, we might might say too much?
Magic Mystery of the Hybrid Del Sol
Well, this post found on reddit has us feeling some type of way. An owner of a Milano Red del Sol decided it was time to go full transformer with his Honda. So they molded on the rear end from an Infiniti G35 Coupe and the front end of a Nissan 350z onto the del Sol.
Oversized sideskirts were also made to match the heavily widened body of the small targa. Let’s say that this del Sol has now been restyled to confuse every person that sees it.
Why the owner decided upon the Infiniti/Nissan combo, we are still unsure. Honda has never collaborated with the brand and very unlikely to ever do so.
It is obvious that whoever did create this hybrid beast of a del Sol at least knew a little about what they were doing from a bodywork perspective. The rear of the car is actually molded quite nicely into the side skirt. The front end is a bit more… questionable. This mostly has to do with the fact that the bumper choice is really just terrible in every way.
We really aren’t sure about this one. Being a fan of the classic swooping roof line of the del Sol, this just doesn’t work with that at all. Maybe that’s the whole point. Trolling is not a new practice. One thing is for sure, this demon of sorts would get a lot of attention from Honda-Tech members on the road. We don’t condone violence.
