Build Thread: Vogue Silver 2001 Integra Type R

From theft recovery to track toy — follow the journey of this reborn Integra Type R.
Who doesn’t love a good build thread? Call us biased, but some of the best build threads around come from Honda-Tech. Here’s one we’ve had our eye on.
Almost three years ago to the day, Honda-Tech member insidiouseg-6 picked up this rough (but repainted) 2001 Integra Type R shell. The car had a checkered past, but hopefully, it will have checkered flags in its future. It’s going to become a race car.

Originally, this Integra Type R was sold in Modesto, California. In 2004, it was stolen and recovered. Another Honda-Tech member bought the car from an insurance auction. It was in bad shape — many parts were missing, and the wiring harness had been cut.
After a few years of sitting, the car was sold again. The third owner ended up getting their hands on a BMW M3 and losing interest in the Integra.
That’s when insidiouseg-6 bought the car and started bringing it back to life. The car came with a bunch of higher-end aftermarket parts, and, given the car’s history, it was clear that a weekend track toy was this Integra Type R’s ideal fate.
Putting it Back Together
Initial progress was slow, but promising. Seeing the Mugen wing and JDM front end mocked up gave us a hint of the car’s potential. Around the same time, necessary harness repairs got the rough work out of the way first.

Soon enough, high-dollar accessories like Mugen wheels and Recaro seats started showing up. It became clear that this Integra Type R was finally receiving the attention it deserved.
Amazingly, insidiouseg-6 was able to track down his Integra Type R’s original numbered badge in a Facebook group. This car has a ton of cool JDM interior accessories, but given the car’s history, it’s amazing that the badge still existed. To us, that’s the coolest part of this build yet.

While the car was repainted in Cement Grey from a Toyota pickup, insidiouseg-6 made the choice to have the car repainted in Vogue Silver Metallic, which was an optional color for JDM Integra Type Rs. The car looks simply incredible after the repaint.
As with all builds, parts have changed here and there. In this case, the wheel and wing — focal points of any build — started out cool, and got better. The Mugen wing and wheels were swapped for a set of TE37s and a Voltex wing.
The most recent update has the car almost complete. We can’t wait to see this car off of jack stands and tearing up Laguna Seca, where it belongs!
