We Can't Take Our Eyes Off This Poor Honda Ridgeline

BMW has their art car, and Honda has–this? We’re not really sure what’s going on here, but this Ridgeline has seen better days.

Time is never kind to us. It’s an unstoppable and destructive force. It relentlessly weathers and ages us, and our machines. Time itself usually treats us equally, but in some instances is very unkind to a select few. Back in 2012, the salesperson who sold this Ridgeline could never have imagined its untimely end. What started out as Honda’s most utilitarian vehicle has been reduced to being sold at an insurance auction. But this isn’t like the other kind of badly wrecked write-offs you’d normally see on Copart. This one is actually quite amazing.

On Copart’s website, the primary vehicle damage is described as “vandalism.” We’d judge that to be accurate. It’s pretty obvious that someone had a bit of fun with some Rustoleum, but unlike a scorned lover or rebellious teen, this spray paint job actually looks somewhat thought out.

You have to look closely to see the Ridgeline’s original silver paint. Squiggly lines and smiley faces and about seven different colors were all used to give the truck some color. If you squint, it’s almost like a Spongebob meets Mystery Machine mashup.

But, peek through the layers of paint and you can see the front passenger side has damage. The front fender is crumpled in, the door doesn’t shut, and the passenger side mirror is gone. Maybe that’s what caused the early demise of this truck. Clearly the car’s stationary status offers a prime opportunity for art, because this wasn’t a quick job.

But on the bright side we almost could pass this off as a piece of artwork. BMW has a long history of letting artists go wild on their cars. BMW’s “Art Car” motorsports liveries are iconic in the racing world and use all types of paint. Additionally, there’s Cadillac ranch where you’re able to add your own artistic touch. Or, maybe someone just really wanted to get rid of their Ridgeline. But at least Copart says it runs and drives.
