Track Prepped S2000 Breaks Records at New York Safety Track

By -

The bar is higher for S2000’s at the New York Safety Track. Time to beat? 1:34.961 thanks to this supercharged AP2.

Those of us near the east have a fun challenge. If you have an S2000 and feel zesty with the throttle, Jared Garcia has just taken his supercharged S2000 around New York Safety Track at a blistering 1:34.961. It is claimed to be an S2000 record, and from everything we can find, that checks out to be true. Of course, he did it at an S2K Takeover event, which travels from track to track with – you guessed it – Honda S2000 track cars. Garcia’s car is classified as a Super Modified.

Garcia’s build is on Instagram under his tag debt2k. On there you’ll find the specs of his build, which include an F22 engine with Science of Speed supercharger. Keeping that power on the ground is a Voltex rear wing and Racebreed splitter. Tires are a square setup with 255 width Advan A052 tires on 17×10 Volk Racing CE28 wheels.

NYST’s layout is very technical. A number of sweeping turns that run into brake zones are hardly considered straight. Most of the course’s 2.14 miles of length is made up of sweepers and turns. Plus, there’s an entire 450 feet of elevation change. However, Garcia’s prowess behind the wheel was enough to snag that quick time. You can even hear him let out an audible “Yeah!” as he passes the start/finish line.

Even more impressive is that Garcia set the lap time with a few cars on track as traffic. They didn’t slow down Garcia’s pace that much, but without traffic, there’s likely even more speed to be found. Garcia caught up to another S2000 at a critical commit-or-back off point. Keep in mind the overall lap record by a Dodge Viper ACR is only 4 seconds faster. While he’s not the fastest production car at the track, he’s very close to it.

With cars, drivers, and tracks gearing back up for the season, we’ll be looking for more records to fall thanks to Honda power. Garcia participates in more than just S2K Takeover events, so we’ll be sure to see his red AP2 out on track a lot more this year.
