Is a Turbo EG Hatch the Best Honda You Could Build?
500 WHP guarantees that you’ll be smiling all the way home in this crazy EG hatch.
We all know about the potential the EG hatch has to be the platform for a great build. Timeless design, light weight, and near perfect driving dynamics are what you should expect when creating a project from an EG. Some people prefer a more subtle build that shines in its details and quirks. Others prefer a more “in your face” package. This turbo EG is defintely the latter.
Thanks to David from the That Dude in Blue YouTube channel, we get to take a closer look at this sweet hatch and see exactly how and why this build came to be. What we know off the bat is that the EG is sporting a B18C1 from an Acura Integra GS-R. The motor is fully built, featuring CP pistons and Eagle rods. However, the Garrett GT30 turbo is what really gets this Civic pushing horsepower. According to David, somehow this EG doesn’t spin at full throttle. That is a pretty crazy fact considering the power-to-weight ratio that this little beast has.
While the car is lowered, it is far from being “slammed” to ensure that there is no rubbing from the tires to maintain grip. The most obvious feature of this build is the complete lack of front bumper to fit the insanely large intercooler setup for the turbo. Not to mention that the exhaust setup for this EG is probably only a foot long and exits right before the passenger front tire. There isn’t really an exhaust setup that could be any more aggressive than that.
David states that people don’t really understand why people love the Civic so much until they get the chance to drive something like this build. When you hear the insane turbo spool on a good rev-matched downshift, we, too, understand why these are such great cars. To up the interior a little, this EG also has been fitted with S2000 seats and an Avenue steering wheel, which flows nicely with the color of the seats. As this any proper turbo build, there is also an AFR, boost, and oil temp gauge fitted in the interior.
Cars like this Civic remind us why we love Hondas. Feel free to check out the rest of the video to hear some sweet sounds and more explanation about the build from David.
