Honda Introduces Everus VE-1, the Brand’s First Electric Crossover

Honda Everus VE-1 is a cutesy electric crossover, based on HR-V, but is exclusive to China, for now.
Other than the Honda Clarity, it would seem at first glance that Honda is a bit behind in the race towards an electrified future. However, if you look beyond the North American market, it quickly becomes apparent that this isn’t the case at all. Elsewhere, the brand offers a much more diverse arrangement of hybridized and electrified vehicles. How about that funky, futuristic looking Urban EV that we gushed about last year? It’s coming to Japan and Europe for 2019.
However, Honda’s product planners and management team probably understood that a boxy, compact EV wouldn’t exactly be the hottest seller here in the States. After all, it seems that all we want are crossovers and SUVs, for some reason. However, there’s another massive global market that has similar demands and desires when it comes to new cars, and that, of course, would be China.

This past week, Honda has debuted the Everus VE-1 at Auto Guangzhou, China’s largest auto show. Fanatics of all things electric, electrek.co has the full report on the Everus VE-1. The Everus VE-1 is a collaborative effort between Honda and local Chinese manufacturer GAC Group. It’s based on the existing Honda HR-V, the brand’s latest crossover and hot ticket item in their U.S. line-up. According to electrek’s math, the price tag is roughly equivalent to $25,000 and the new model promises approximately 211 miles of range.
It would seem at first glance that this is exactly what Honda needs to bump up sales, especially as the market charges full steam ahead towards electrification and the love of all hatchbacks with bodycladding and 2-inch lift kits masquerading as cute-ute SUVs. The only question that remains is when is the electric HR-V coming here?
