They say never meet your heroes, but thankfully, the Honda CRX SiR is still special to drive.

Throughout the course of history, there have been many, many great cars produced and sold to the general public. However, for many of us that idolize these special machines, actually driving one can be like the old saying “never meet your heroes,” because the actual experience doesn’t live up to the hype that we’ve been subjected to. This is also true of some older vehicles, which don’t offer the same sort of power and refinement of newer ones. However, as the folks behind the YouTube channel Savage Geese recently discovered, the Honda CRX SiR is every bit as great as they thought it would be.

Many of us grew up lusting after the Honda CRX SiR, and many also wound up buying one – or at the very least, getting the chance to drive it. It was a special, easily attainable, and affordable machine that was also incredibly fun to drive, and perhaps more importantly for Honda, it created an entire generation of devoted enthusiasts for that particular brand. However, on this particular day, the question is – can the Honda CRX SiR live up to our fond memories of it?

Honda CRX SiR

The short answer is yes – out on the track, it proves to be every bit as special as our host has heard. The car’s light weight and sublime balance means that carving corners can be done by simply modulating the throttle – no steering wheel input required – which is something that modern front-wheel-drive cars simply can’t match. It isn’t the fastest thing one can buy by a long shot, of course, but that isn’t the point here – it’s all about creating pure driving enjoyment.

In that regard, it’s easy to see why the Honda CRX SiR has earned and retained its icon status for so many years now. With a high-revving powerplant, little weight to move around, and magical driving dynamics, they simply don’t make cars like this anymore, and in this particular case, that’s a real shame.
