Sportier 2022 Honda Civic Si arrives this fall, along with the hatchback, but no word on the Type R just yet.

With the new 2022 Honda Civic already on sale at dealerships everywhere, most of us enthusiasts have been left wondering when we might see the 2022 Honda Civic Si alongside it. Thankfully, the answer appears to be soon, according to a purported Honda marketing roadmap posted to the Civic11 Forum. That leaked document shows the 2022 Honda Civic Si going on sale in October of 2021, one month after the new Civic hatchback arrives in September.

Unfortunately, the document does not reveal when we might expect a new Civic Type R to launch, but we suppose the Si will be a fine consolation prize for most enthusiasts. The beloved model will once again return with a manual transmission, as it should, along with the hatchback and Type R. The newest Civic sedan, on the other hand, will be sold only with an automatic gearbox.

On the flip side, many believe this means the Si will only be sold in hatchback form, rather than the sedan and coupe body styles it was previously available in. Now that the Civic coupe is dead and the sedan is auto-only, perhaps Honda will market the 2022 Civic Si as a mini Type R of sorts. It would certainly make a lot of sense from a marketing standpoint, though we’d prefer to have the choice, obviously.

As far as what will power the 2022 Honda Civic Si, well, no one really knows. The safe bet is that it will carry over its existing powertrain from the outgoing 10th gen model, which means the old 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder will make another appearance, albeit with a bit more power, hopefully. In the 2020 Civic Si, this mill produces 205 horsepower and 192 pound-feet of torque.

Any improvement in that regard would be nice, and also quite a bit of fun flowing through a six-speed manual to a limited-slip front differential. If pricing stays close to the prior model’s $25k asking price, the 2022 Civic Si will once again represent a formidable performance bargain, which is a formula that’s made it a hit with enthusiasts for many years now.
