Honda’s 11th generation 2022 Civic has more reserved lines, and a new marketing strategy aimed at younger buyers.

Civic enthusiasts rejoice! Honda has revealed the 2022 Honda Civic sedan and it is quite a stunner. Splashed in metallic orange paint, we can see the car’s lines are considerably more reserved that the 10th generation. In fact, we almost see a little bit of FA5 DNA in that front end shot. The styling stands as a stark contrast from the attention-grabbing cuts and angles of the current Civic. Going forward, it looks like Honda wants to give the car a more up-scale image.

Honda revealed the newest Civic on the streaming platform Twitch. Through CNN we have learned of the reasoning behind this reveal. In the report, “two-thirds of Twitch users are under the age of 35, according to Honda. Honda claims to be the only automaker with a dedicated gaming channel on the network.” It’s no surprise that manufacturers have been moving to virtual reveals due to travel restrictions. However, the Twitch platform is certainly a first in the industry. In keeping with Twitch’s gaming platform, Honda’s HeadtoHead channel appears to be competition-based. We anticipate other competitors will likely follow suit.

As for engine specifics, we’ll need to wait on those. Honda execs only revealed the next cars will be more powerful and more fuel efficient. However, CNN‘s report does give great hope for enthusiasts, saying, “manual transmissions will be available in all versions, at least as an option.” Nothing yet has been mentioned about a hybrid or even an EV version, but we wouldn’t at all be shocked to see something like that integrated into this newest generation of Civic.

As the volume seller, the sedan was revealed first, but hatchback models will come at a later date. Si and Civic Type R models are in the pipeline too. Given that Honda is active on Twitch, maybe Honda will have a stream allowing VR competitions in future sporting models. If they are aiming for the under-35 demographic, that might just be an excellent way of hooking the attention of a potential car buyer.
