just purchased some GM SYNCHROMESH tranny fluid...
picked up some GM SYNCHROMESH at the local chevy dealer, just fyi at the gmc dealer they wanted $14 per qt. At the chevy dealer they had it for $11 per qt for the same exact product.
part # is 1#12345349, anyhow i compared it to the honda mtf and its a little thinner and is amber in color compared to the cooking oil color of the honda mtf. i'll be putting it in tommorrow along w/ my timing belt,i'll let you guys know if it feels better than the honda mtf.

I'll tell you right now... it's NOT thinner, you can feel it all you want.
Anywoo.. "feeling" isn't always what you want... how it holds under temperature is key. Tons of things get thinner as they heat... I went to GM Syncromesh a while back and was VERY VERY VERY pleased...
HONDA MTF... is nothing special...
Did it feel better? It stopped third gear from clicking at high RPM shifts... when Honda MTF couldn't... what can you say to that? Sorry Honda... GM beat you here.

well say what you will RE: if its thinner, i compared them and you can easily tell it is thinner.not by alot but you can tell.
i'm not saying this is bad or good i was simply stating MY observation. as far as how it "feels", different oils DO make the gearbox "feel" different. i have tried lots of different products, 10w30 oil, redline mtf, mobil 1 synthetic gear lube and IMO the Honda MTF worked best FOR ME.
i'll post my thoughts on the synchromesh once i get it in and drive it hard a few times. i did read once that Acura reccomends synchromesh if your having scratching problems as a last ditch effort before you go and get it repaired. dont know how TRUE that is though.

Re: just purchased some GM SYNCHROMESH tranny fluid... (Dozed)
I have used Redline MTL in my 96 teg LS for 4 yrs and in my 00 GSR for 2 yrs with GREAT results. Some people like spreading rumors and other people like spreading them! I would feel safer using Redlne than some GM staff!
Also, some people say that synthetic oils damage the engine. I have always used synthetic oil also with great results and I know people using syn. oil and their engineshave lasted over 200k miles w/outburning any oil, but this is getting of the origina topic......

Re: just purchased some GM SYNCHROMESH tranny fluid... (Dozed)
how safe? dunno know really, seems great so far,i used redline mtl in my tranny and it worked ok but not as well as the honda mtl in my b series tranny.
funny thing is the redline mtf worked really great in my d series tranny.
as far as cold weather so far its gotten as low as 30 degrees here and let me tell you the gearbox feel great. with the honda mtf it normally took a few minutes of driving before the gearbox felt nice. id *****-foot till it was up to temp. i'm asuming the synchromesh works better at low temps due to it being thinner. just a guess.
as far as im concerned this gm synchromesh is good stuff. like i said before i did hear that acura recommends you use synchromesh if you have synchro problems.
try it for yourself, if you dont like it go back to what you were using, but i'll bet you wont. thats just my opinion.
