Default Top speed!

My previous top speed in the Civic was a lofty 95mph riding solo with a tailwind and the windows closed. My friend tried to duplicate that the other night but could not get up above 85mph (when I opened my window and stuck my arms out we slowed down to 80mph). I installed a new cap & rotor, new wires, new NGK V-power plugs, and filled the motor with 100W Aeroshell aircraft motor oil this morning and was able to hit 100mph with a 220 lb passenger and a heavy 3-ton jack in cargo and both windows open. :D

When I was 16 I had a Civic hatchback 89 si. On a slight downhill, with all windows closed and one passenger I did 123-4? I think it topped out at 124 but not sure because the needle sort of bounced plus I was past 6000 rpms in 5th gear.. It wasn't very stable so I declined the accelerator asap.
After I was 18 I bought my 88CRX si and with some reasonably hight performance aftermarket rims and tires I was doing a comfortable 120+ without any fear of unstablity. I was very very pleased with this.. although I have only done it once after this time because running a little stock 4 banger over 6000 rpms in 5 gear isn't the wisest thing to do financially speaking! Anyway.. that's my story and I'm sticking to it.. also remember that bother were si's.

the fastest i have ever been was 90... i was scared, had another guy in the car, and was only in 4th gear... btw... 87 crx Dx.. no mods, and 16 in rims.. i think i could get to 100... but either i would flip or my engine would blow up lol

the *** end is lower.. i had rubbing problems so i jacked it up
does that make me more aerodynamic???

My hatch has done really well at high speeds...I have buried it at 125 at the bottom of fifth...I had to be going over 130 by the time it topped it out...the car felt okay actually. There was a time my car would cut out somewhere around 117-122 but I had the speed limiter removed, then it hustled...

Though that was in my FD (I have a video of it too.. ..I don't have a speedo in my CRX . I got my friends 99 Si up to 130 though. My FD felt much more stable at 150 then the Si did at 130.

on a lonely deserted LEVEL road.......
5g HB with Z6 and I/H/E = 132 mph (speedo read 136) radar verified.
Cop was a HS friend.
Lonely QEW in Canada = 140+ will on the juice. AT that speed I was NOT gonna keep looking down at speedo.

Word to the wise, a brigde expansion joint will RUIN your day. That little bump at 60 mph will bottom out your suspension and you get just a wee bit airborne. I jumped a lane and was fine.

I don't do speed runs anymore

Cool mang!

man, why you trying to kill people like that?
Are you really trying to tell me doing 100 mph is fast? That's about the average highway speed in Holland , Europe. Our neighbours : the Germans actually have NO speedlimit on their Autobahn (highway) and the average speed driven there is about 110mph (no matter how old the vehicle!!!!!!)..

I'm not saying this is the right thing (concerning enviromental and safety) but I'm not kidding.. I've spoken to some US citizens who work here and they said it took a lot of time getting used to this crazy driving in Europe (not to mention the outrages gasprices: 4 times as much as in the US)

May I conclude that driving in the US means: slow-motion movement?

Be careful at high speeds in a CRX, not very stable if you ask me. I havent hit over 110MPH out of fear... dont wanna take flight ya know?
You must be joking right?

A stock SiR (without limiter) has a topspeed of 139mph (and it only stops because the rev limiter kicks in!) and they car feels really stable at this speed. Actually the downforce at 125mph is about 1000lbs and this is 2 times as much than the first models Audi TT had (and why these cars where called back to the factory/garage)

There's nothing wrong with high-speed driving: just do it in a safe spot.........

Actually I'm working on a journal of my favorite racing spots..Perhaps a cool idea to share these pictures and experiences?
