Default Yokohama Avid HS4, or Falken Ziex ZE-512?

Hey all, i own an ej8 with a 99 b18b1 swap. the swap is mint. mods or AEM cold air intake, and Vibrant 3 inch stainless steel catback exhaust with a 3 inch high flow cat. also i have hasport motor mounts. when i did the swap i changed the oil pump, water pump, timing belt, timing belt tensioner, spark plugs, and wires, new cap and rotor. new exedy OEM clutch and lightened flywheel. i'm new here and well after going to englishtown on wed, i am hooked and just wanna keep modding and modding . i got the bug lol. anyway i was very dissapointed by my times at the track. best was a 15.813. my 60ft was horrible it was a 2.438. but i did beat a 04 civic si with bolt ons . i was lucky he couldnt drive well. anyway my main problem is my 60ft, i was running on almost bald bfgoodridge traction t/a's...i'm on stock 14inch steelies...now i know one of my main reasons for such a crappy launch and time were the tires..so i'v been looking for high performance all-season tires. i came across 2 that i like. the Yokohama AVIS HS4 or the Falken Ziex ZE-512...both have great reviews on both. wanted some opinions on which to purchase. also could i put P195/65R14 tires on my steelies? if not i'm gonna get a hookup on some HX wheels anyway. well sorry for the long post for such a simple question. but what would you reccommend? tire rack sells the yoko's for $60 each..good price and im tempted. haven't found a price for the falkens...any help would be appreciated...

Tire choice is important, but you're also running dinky tires. I'd try to put on some 15x7 wheels and at least 205mm width rubber.

If you still see no success in improving your 60 ft., I'd increase the rear spring rates.

Sorry I can't help on tire choices in specific, as I have no experience with either tire model.

there are plenty of people running hx wheels on here and if i am correct those are 14inch tires..yes i know i have crap tires thanks for pointing the obvious as i said that in my post. if you have no advice to say don't post..i have funds for tires not rims and tires are more important than looks to me..all i asked was, what is a good high performance 14 inch tire and advice on which to buy not to be told i have dinky tires...so do yourself a favor and keep your comments to yourself. thanks and have a nice day.

Do you need all season tires? All season tires are meant to be used in snow and frigid cold. If you are not going to do either than you do not need an all season tire. Please answer this first.

i'm looking for high performance all season tires...so far i was leaning toward the avid hs4...but wasnt too sure, wanted opinions from people who have used either and their thoughts on them....forget the azenis those are summer tires and i live in nyc so i'd rather all season for now. sorry for not being upfront....

get alot of rain out here, not sure how the azenis would handle that especially the snow.

ok so I have owned all three of the tires you're considering. You said you were looking for an all season tire so the Azenis are out...trust me you don't want to be running those through a good down poor...you WILL hydroplane to your death!...maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration but they truly are slippery in the wet....and as far as snow? seriously don't even try it!

As far as the other two tires, I would go with the Yokohama's they're a bit grippier IMO and have less road noise.

Azenis 615's will get you nowhere in the cold let alone snow. When it's warm out they do alright in the rain. At least when they're new. If you're looking for a tire with tread life those aren't a good choice. There's only I believe 8/32's of tread on them when they're new. They are a great summer/ persormance tire though and I would recommend then for that application only. As far as fitment goes I can't help you there.

The H4S have pretty good traction on wet and dry, are fairly comfortable and quiet (for a high performance A/S), but steering response and snow traction are below average.

There's only one really good all-season tire available in 14" sizes, and it's the Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position.

However, if you're really concerned about improving your times at the dragstrip, you would be better off getting two different sets of wheels and tires, one that will deal well with snow, and another that will be stickier for the dragstrip. There are a couple of ways to go: (a) drag radials for the dragstrip, and all-season tires for your street driving in all seasons; (b) good summer tires for the dragstrip and three-season street driving, and winter tires for street driving in winter. If you go with the latter option, the good summer tires could be supersticky tires like the Falken Azenis RT-615, or longer-lasting summer tires like the Yokohama ES100, both of which are available in 195/60-14.

i will say keep your steelies for winter and upgrade to some decent rims and wider tires. For the most part i say if you really want a better 60ft you should just get high performance summer tires.
