McGard Spline Drives or Rays lug nuts?
To those who have used either or both:
Which ones in your opinion are better and why?
I'm looking for something that offers both durability and safety. This will be my first time buying lug nuts.

i have had several sets of mutekis. they go for like $25-30 shipped. my cars sees a beating at road racing course and i've never had one fail and i've never damaged one... they might weigh a couple grams more than something that costs $150, but that kid of weight difference is a joke.

I've had great luck with Muteki as well. Never had one come loose or the lug key fail (like kyokugen). My brother has been rocking a set for almost 3 yrs and I've had mine for 2.5 yrs.

I switched recently from Rays to McGard spline drives.
Rays
Pros:
* Rays were light.
* Pimp flat black color.
* I also liked how the 7 sided "lock" nut didn't stand out from a distance as a lock nut.
Cons:
* Rays lugs started loosing some of their threads after 7 months of use. No power tool has ever touched those lugs, only I change tires on my car, and always with a torque wrench. Then again, I change wheels once a month for auto-x and back. However, no nut should start going that soon.
* Rays started fading after about 6 months. Yeah, the black started fading. I had 4 extra nuts (bought a set for 5 lug) and could compare those on the car to those off the car.
* The 7 sided lock nut was removed by a 19mm 12-point socket and a hammer, after I lost my key. Took maybe 30 seconds extra per wheel. They offer no security to stop or even slow down a thief.
McGard:
Pros:
* Washer built into lugs, no wheel scratches from contact.
* Very solid built.
Cons:
* Heavier. (Doesn't bother me)
* Need to keep the key around.
* Non-unique keys. (Unlike OEM locks)

Thanks for the helpful reply!
After doing a bit of searching on the McGards, there are some threads that come up
saying that newer McGard lug nuts weren't built as solidly or as well as the older ones made a few years ago.
Can anyone comment on this?

Well, I have the ones that were built a few years ago, I just need a new set to compare.

obviously (see my sig)
Aftermarket lug nuts have a special conical seat that won't fit the stockies properly or safely.
Now can you offer some advice on which ones you prefer?

My set is only 6 months old. They look and feel as solid as any set of McGard lugs I have had previously (3 sets on different cars over the years). This is my first set of spline drive lugs, but they're taking the abuse I throw at them just fine (daily drive on one set of wheels, reuse same lugs on another set for auto-x and HPDE use).
