Default Woodworking fab - desk project.

Saw a thread on here a while back of some of you guys doing some wood working. Ran across these photos today on my computer. This is a desk I built about 6 years ago. 100% Solid cherry. Stock was purchased in AR from a small saw mill in rough cut form then cured in a barn for 6 months and then I roughed out with a planer and joiner and built this project from that. Had a couple hours in this one.

Thought some of you might enjoy.

Nice piece, looks like a but more than a "couple of hours".

How long did it really take?

Couple hundred hours...

Basically just stack the stock with shims in between each board and de-humidify.

LOL, except that you can pick up an Ikea desk that size with one hand.

I built a bench for our porch a few years back. You'd get seasick if you sat on it. :p

For some reason wood doesn't agree with me. Metal I love working with, wood, not so much.

Great work on the desk.

Haha, I don't think Ikea was open in Texas when I made that desk. I do remember that I had almost a grand in just the materials: rough lumber, drawer slides, pull handles, magnetic latches, glue, expansion *****, etc.

IIRC it was almost 450 pounds. I made it so that the top unbolts and then the middle section breaks down also.
