Im VERY proud, and my oldest son just made semi finals at the high school drags on his first time ever on the drag strip. He's running a boosted 95 civic video of him http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PkrWrue8NGc

Thanx guys! last year i posted some pics of the 13 year old mig welding and BS was called. Well i figure these pics set the record straight

Do us a favor and give him some proper attire before welding. Its not fun when hot things falls to your feet or legs. It happens.

lol, hes mostly covered when he's mig welding i make him wear pants and a different shirt/jacket but there is little to no sparks/spatter when tig welding

well ive never had any training on welding so i hope im not showing him the wrong way or giving him bad habits. I have a couple books/videos that he and i have been looking at for guidance and of course suggestion I've read on HT

He really shouldn't have the hose wrapped around his neck like that, some have had hoses melt and cause some nasty *** burns.....that would really hurt on his neck!

You should be able to feel the heat long before it burn through your clothing.
The reason he has it slung over his shoulder is to reduce the weight of the welding lead, which is very common.
And the only reason I could think of that the welding lead would heat up like that would be because the water cooler isn't turned on with a smaller torch, or its somehow hooked up wrong.
tfnaaf - That is really cool your teaching him that young. I wish I would have been. Great progress

it is a water cooled torch, weldcraft 310 as i recall. and the water cooler is always turned on. I've never felt it ever even get warm, let alone hot.

I got my little one on the slow road, but I started real early.
She's 8 1/2 months here, taken just before christmas 2007.
She loves to come and see me in the shop, so much stuff to play with.
Kids are great, they make it all fun!!!
