Get some practice pieces setup and try this technique

That is the same technique I use Russ. They may not turn out as purrty starting out, but the welds are solid if you follow what he is doing.

Works great, and regardless of pushing/pulling all comes out the same.

I use the circle technique when I mig at work, when I stick weld at work I do more of a side to side motion. I just started tig welding today and 9 times out of 10 I don't even need to use filler.

FYI if you have an android phone there is an app for welding, it lets you know what setting to be at for what you are using. IDK if they have one for Iphone.

Fusion welding has its place, but its not for every application. I can weld most things without filler, but that doesn't make it right. Filler is needed for strength.

i have a miller diversion 180 tig machine and it welds like a dream. i also had a lincoln square wave 175 and it was also very good. but im my book the miller is like the rolls royce of welders. so if your lookin to get into tig welding u cant go wrong with either of those machines. plus there are alot of vids on youtube that can give u plenty of tips. just start out trying to run some beads on some flat stock then learn to do lap joints and butt welds. just keep practicing and you will hone your skill. you are definately on the right track. when someone asks you who made that or where did u get that header you can say i made that myself. built not bought!!!

I work as a welder/fitter, one thing I try to tell people I train/help at work that are fresh out of weld school is to try and make some type of consistent movement, which sounds obvious, but the more mechanical you make your movement the better off you will be, especially in production welding. I take 1/8" "bites" forward on high amperage fillet welds, on smaller/lower amp stuff I make the normal "c's" most people recommend.
A pic of some high amp stuff. About 380 amps, .045 wire, spray arc. About a 30" bead.
I am also a self taught welder, I have laid down thousands of pounds of wire though, just practice and try to always improve. Stay humble.

well I just don't know how much i should spend on a tig, i mean its not like a do this all the time, but it looks like both welders you mentioned are around 1800$ i seen a few used square waves for around 1000$ I'm guessing the everlast and summit racing tig welders are just a waste of money.
