I've used solidedge (v14 up), solidworks, unigraphix NX 2, AC 07/05, and Pro-E. I can say that after starting in solidedge, I used solidworks for one project and then never touched it again. Unigraphix is an amazingly powerful program that will never reach it's full potential, and both it and Pro-E have absolutely awful interfaces. Autocad 05 is, well...it's autocad, it just refuses to die. The parametric guys hate it, the machinist can't read it, and the managers can't open it. 07 is better, but only because it's 2 programs in 1.

Is anyone else using SolidEdge v100 ST now? Sweet, sweet nectar...

Here's some SolidEdge stuff from last year (v20). The last pic is Unigraphix...

Man this software looks awesome, might have to buy it and mess with it. I use a program here at my job called Solid Edge 2D Drafting, I can only really design flanges and flat peices, then cuts it out on a laser. I have been thinking of makin a coulpe of flanges.

They've been pushing the rendering thing pretty hard for the last few releases, you can get pretty decent looking stuff pretty easily in 2008. None of it's really useful to me though, I design boring machined parts to be as cheap as possible, appearances be damned. Also, the backgrounds are sort of weird...

Can someone convert a solidworks file "was drawn in Solidworks 2009" or a IGES to a DWG so it can be viewable in Autocad 2009 for me? If so please post your e-mail address and I will gladly send you the files. Thanks!

I figured i would post in the Solidworks thread rather than start a new one.

A while back a h-t member helped me create a gauge template on solid works because the shop that was going to cnc the piece required a autocad or solidworks file. I need some of the dimensions changed if someone could help me out with that it would be much appreciated.
