Since there are intercoolers how about radiator cores I dont want to rely on a company making a custom radiator for me when I can save money doing it my self.

I have several car projects and I do things differentley than others .

Any input is welcomed.

Can an intercooler core be used an engine radiator? They go through about the same pressures ( in reference to bar & plate cores)

It won't be very effective. Radiators spread the water out to get a lot of surface area.

Intercoolers are air based, so they don't use this technique.

You could just buy some cheap ebay aluminum radiators and put together what you need and weld on some end tanks.


I'm not a big fan of aluminum ones though. Copper is heavier, but has much better thermal conductivity.

I got a godspeed 12x24x3" b&p core of ebay for $150 shipped, and it looks to be of pretty high quality, could deffinatley use some cleaning up, but i'm anodizing it anyways so it all good.

This is the radiator I bought off of ebay which is bar and plate in design

I bought it because it was truly 2.5" thick where as my previous purchased radiator that was supposed to be 2.25" thick had a core of maybe 1.5" thick so watch out for those -- a lot of the ebay auctions for Civic radiators are like this.

I will say I am struggling with overheating issues still, although my topmount manifold takes up a large portion of the engine bay so I attribute that some heatsoaking is going on since it's so close to the radiator.

i heard in another thread that Bar and Plate rad. will move the watter too fast and have shitty cooling properties.

Im sure if u designed it right, that wouldnt be a probleme.

After comparing a bar & plate core some company appear to use the same type of core / internal fin as used in cooling coolant.

I just spoke to this guy Greg mulsani very knowlegable in the buisness although he has what I basically want he lectured me on the subject of charge air coolers :

They have more of a turbulation effect on the exterior fins of the heat exhanger and the engine radiator is exactly the opposite he knows of a company that has what I need and he also carrys them (active radiators) he just said email him dimensions and he'll get a list of sizes.

I already seen that but Mulsani said something much more in dept on the topic of bar plate .

I contacted bell intercoolers they have tube & fin cores in various sizes. Not listed on there they website but I was told by bell in a recent email.
