Transmission driveshaft seal replacement
Hey guys, my transmission kept acting up and would drop out of fifth gear, well i check the fluid and it actually took 2 quarts, meaning it was empty, not good. so i put two quarts in, layed on the ground and watched it drip off the shift linkage, so i got a better view and noticed it was just steadily dripping from the axle hole of the half shaft (intermediate shaft), i was told by a friend we can change it from the outside without pulling the transmission.
So my transmission is an s80, can i just go to my local honda dealer and request that seal part number for a civic si (99-00) model? are all b18 transmission seals the same? or will i need to get one for that particular part because i have not clue what car my transmission came form seeing as how an s80 came on various makes and models, and the fact that i have b16 gears, ls final drive and lsd.
So are the seals the same on all b18 transmissions, and will one from a 99-00 civic si work?

Re: Transmission driveshaft seal replacement
the 99-00 Si seals will work just fine. In fact, most older Accords, Odysseys/Oasis, Preludes, Civics, Integras, etc all use the same axle seals.
Remove the int shaft and pry the old seal out using a long screwdriver or pry bar. Be very careful not to scratch the housing!! Lightly lube the outside of the new seal with oil or urea grease and tap back into place with a deadblow or plastic hammer to keep from mangling the seal.
Note how far the original seal was sitting as well...too far in= leaks...not in far enough= leaks.
Good luck!

edge of the seal sits flush with case, I use an an old bearing outer race to drive the seal in.
The driver side seal on 94-01 Teg/99-00 Si tranny is a D series SOHC seal, should be very easy to find.
