Default no 2nd gear... please read.

Ok so ill try to make it relatively short;

91 Civic DX with S40 tranny, innovative mounts (which eliminates the front mount) and the cable/hydro actuator, New exedy clutch kit w/ pressure plate and throw out bearing, resurfaced flywheel, stock shift linkage, Honda MTF... I think that's all that matters for now.

So 1st gear is a breeze, 3rd, 4th, 5th all great. Reverse has been occasianally iffy but not too bad. 2nd gear will not engage. The only time I've gotten it to engage is downshifting from 3rd for some reason. Otherwise it grinds and whines like hell and will not go in for anything.

Am I using the wrong shift linkage and maybe reverse and second don't exactly reach and thus won't engage?
Is the clutch just not fully engaging maybe due to new mounts or lack of front mount? Can't think of anything else really... What I've read on here only talks about the lower countershaft bearing walking out but I'm not sure that's what it is as a performance shop looked it over, although it's possible I suppose. Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks,

Oso

1st & 2nd share the same synchro hub & shift fork with each other and the 1/2 hub is on the countershaft.
So if 1st is ok theoretically 2nd should be as well? I'm thinking it's a linkage issue.

Ok so I realized I forgot to mention something and it actually helped. A year or so ago I bought an eBay short shifter. Swapped it back go oem one and it now shifts into gear. Won't stay unless you're holding it though. I wonder if the ek shifter is different too. But in short, it was a linkage issue.

The synchro spring is probably damaged or non existent lol it is used as the brakes for the synchro and because each gear has its own it's possible to have a single gear grind and pop out because of it
