Was grinding/popping out of fourth, now won't go in at all
I got a good deal on a new trans so I'm not going to mess with it, but I do have someone interested in buying my old gsr trans that grinded/popped out of fourth, and by the end it wouldn't go in at all. Everything points to just a synchro, is that correct? I just want to make sure I tell this guy everything up front so nothing comes back to me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I currently don't have it in my car anymore, but I do have someone interested in buying it and fixing it. I'm not looking for a band-aid fix, I really want to know what the problem is. Thanks for your input though.

Synchro went out, which led to teeth on the sleeve to round and not mesh into the gear's dogteeth.
Or 3rd gear synchro ground one too many times and mushroomed the 3rd gear sleeve teeth so that the shifter physically can't move past neutral to the 4th gear side.
Either way, synchro, sleeve, and hub damage most likely. Next owner is looking at $250-300 to fix it correctly.

Re: Was grinding/popping out of fourth, now won't go in at all
I already sold it, but now you have me curious. The trans was perfect until one day when I was driving and I lost all compression in my clutch pedal when I was cruising in 4th gear. I tried to force the trans out of gear as I came to a stop, but for some reason it wasn't complying. As I stopped I heard about three loud booms and then my car died. I put some brake fluid in the clutch resevoir and continued to drive it to make sure everything was ok, and it seemed to be. The next day I was on the interstate and it was constantly popping out of fourth gear, and soon enough it wouldn't go in fourth at all. Now does that change your diagnosis?
